I had done this deliberately - with no forethought - one of the pitfalls of pantsering (which is writing without any cohesive story plan, aka writing by the seat of you pants). Okay, so not much in itself - the double up of a scene (movies do it all the time - um, but don't ask me to name one).
But, it was terribly boring to write and that equals just as boring to read. Might also explain why I'd stalled on writing anything further. Now I need to select the 'delete' button. This is a hard thing to do at times - where you agonise over which words you need to remove - agh the agony of it... do I cut pulchritudinous or beautiful?
Funny though, at other times I can be as ruthless as Genghis Khan, cutting a swathe through my manuscripts with delighted abandon. Sentence doesn't work? Don't bother reworking it - chop it! Word not right for the scene? Chop it! Secondary character being to pushy? Chop chop chop! Mwahahahaha!
Okay, that may have come across a little crazy - but keep in mind I do face replacing all those chopped words with new ones...
